WRPS launch blog

Waterloo Regional Police Service has taken another step into the online world – to connect the community and to help reduce crime and raise awareness about offences including illegal gun, gang and drug activity.

Superintendent Gary Askin told 570 News the public is invited to send information they have researched, particularly about guns and gangs.

“From our contributors, we have a few members of the public who have written articles … so this blog is basically available to anybody to discuss relevant topics.”

The site includes discussions around hate crime, youth gangs and drug enforcement as well.

This isn’t the first foray WRPS have made into the online world. In late October, an online police reporting service was launched. The force also has a Facebook page and a Twitter page, “They’ve been excellent tools in helping us solve crimes and helping us solve crimes, and generating awareness in Waterloo Region.” Askin said.
