Flu shot clinics open today

Flu season is underway with clinics opening around the area.
Region of Waterloo Public Health starts their community clinics with the first one open from 2 to 8 pm today at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
They are free and open to anyone over the age of six months. However, those with an egg allergy are advised to get the vaccination from their family doctor.
Some pharmacists can also administer the vaccination – this year marks the first time for this.
“After H1N1 there was a bit of a decline in the number of people we saw coming out to clinics,” said Linda Black, Manager of the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program.
Last year the clinics saw about 11,000 people, she said.
But this year, because of the early start to the flu season, they’re hoping for a better uptake, she says.
The community clinics will be set up around the region today though to January.
