Train derails in Burlington

Via Rail has confirmed that 3 of its employees have died after a train derailed.
Via Spokesperson, Michelle Lamarche, says two cars came off the tracks near the Aldershot train station at Highway 403 and Waterdown Road.
She says 75 people were on board and many have been injured. The latest numbers into 570 News are 45 injured, 3 of which seriously.
Registered Nurse Allison was driving through the area when she heard the train blast its horn, when traffic started to slow down.
She pulled into the train station before any emergency crews arrived and describes to 570 News what she saw, “at least 2 or 3 passenger cars were on their side or about half-way on their side. At that time, the cars near the back were evacuating, so we helped evacuate some of the cars from the back kind of thing.”
Allison says victims told her the train started to shake and squeal before it went off the tracks, but there was nothing to indicate how the derailment happened.
Allison says an air ambulance had arrived to take people to take people off site, and crews had to cut open parts of the train.
GO Transit says its trains are turning back at Burlington.
