Kitchener City Council will be seeking feedback from the public on the three improvement options that were tabled for consideration on Monday night. The options look at both exterior and interior improvements to the city-owned Boathouse facility in Victoria Park.
The basic difference between the options are the plans for the landscaping around the Boathouse, including at the rear along the lake edge, both sides of the building and the front of the building.
The options range in cost from $250,000 to $500,000 while the proposed interior works have an estimated cost of $234,000.
Related to the interior, the bill for the proposed kitchen improvements will come out of the pocket of the venue’s current operator, Kevin Doyle. Doyle wants to move the kitchen to the other side of the restaurant.
From today until January 27th the public will be able to review all three exterior improvement options on the city’s website at www.kitchener.ca. There will also be a link for online feedback.
Council also voted to hold an open house in the week of January 23rd, where feedback from the public will be fielded.
Councillor Dan Glenn-Graham says its not realistic for everyone to come to the podium on decision day for their 5 minutes.
Council will consider all recommended improvements for final approval on Feb. 6, including proposed upgrades to the interior of the building, with focus on building accessibility and washroom accessibility.
