Despite opposition from the Liberal Government, a Private Members Resolution holding the McGuinty Government accountable for their election promises on hospital expansions, has passed at Queen’s Park.
Member of Provincial Parliament for Cambridge and North Dumfries, Rob Leone, tabled the resolution which passed by a 54 to 50 mark. This is the first ever resolution that Leone has had passed and he tells 570News the propose of implementing it.
“First of all the government claims that there is a plan for hospital expansion but no concrete plan on how we’re going to pay for them, no concrete plan what the timelines are, and no concrete plans on when these hospital expansion will be done by. But also the operational aspects, so once the buildings are done, how they’re going to fund doctors and nurses being paid to do what they’re supposed to do at hospitals.”
Leone says that the vote is historic and that it feels great to have his first ever resolution pass.
“The fact that it was the first private members bill in this session that actually passed, that means something. It was a historic vote.”
The McGuinty Government has until March 1st, 20-12 to come up with a detailed plan that outlines the costs, a timeline for completion, and how the government plans to pay for the construction and operation of all the hospital expansion projects.
Leone calls this a huge victory for all of Ontarians, but especially for the people of Cambridge and North Dumfries.
