Should vitamins be regulated like conventional drugs?

Vitamins, supplements and other natural health products in Canada are being pushed to be looked at under the same level of scrutiny as drugs.

The Canadian Medical Association published an editorial that argues the idea that natural remedies are safer than conventional drugs.

Matthew Stanbrook, deputy editor of the journal, said the central problem is that natural health products are often approved with limited evidence.

According to the Globe and Mail, Stanbrook points out drug manufacturers spend money on large, rigorous clinical trails, and provide regulators with extensive information on safety and efficacy of new medicines before they hit the market.
