It’s the 31st annual Terry Fox Run with a couple different locations around the region to check out, including Cambridge.
Terry Barlow is the Cambridge Terry Fox Run Organizer, he tells 570 News Cambridge has had a run right from the start.
It’s happening today at Riverside park. The run is entirely within the park, with the start and finish point at the Kin Picnic area near the skate park and maintenance building. People can go to terryfoxrun.org and download a pledge sheet or head out to the run and make a donation on site. There is no set fee. Barlow says if you show up late that is not a problem, you can collect pledges after the run as well.
Registration is at 12 noon, with the run kicking off at 1pm.
Barlow says there is no set monetary goal, because everyone comes out and does the run for the right reasons. It varies from year to year how many people come out and how much money is raised. He says, he’s just happy people participate.
The route is 5 km. But, Barlow says it’s not set in stone. He says some people choose to go around twice and make it a 10 km run, and others just do as much as they can. There are families of two and three generations that come out and just make it a day in the park, without actually doing the run.
Other locations holding a run today for cancer research include: Kitchener, Elmira, New Hamburg, Stratford, Guelph and Fergus.
