New clinic raises concerns

A new methadone clinic has opened in Kitchener, and it’s causing issues with the members of the King East community.
Concerned residents voiced their issues at a City Council meeting last night.
Jesse Reeve was at the meeting raising issues such as parking and littering.
“The overcrowdedness of our street, the littering and the crude behaviour of the patients in the neighbourhood has been a very unpleasant experience thus far.”
Another reason why people are upset about the opening of the clinic, on King St East and Sheldon Ave North, is because no one was informed of its arrival. Ward 9 councillor Frank Etherington says that’s not right.
“There should be some way of placing the clinics in communities where residents are not just blind sided.”
Etherington does add however, that the City had no power over where the clinic’s are placed.
“If they meet the terms of a medical clinic, than we can’t refuse the zone.”
Methadone clinics help people struggling with drug addictions. The other clinic on Park St is temporarily closed, which cloud be adding to the traffic and littering problems around the new clinic.
