NDP-Isabel Cisterna
Ms. Cisterna spent her childhood in Chile, saying she was inspired to run by witnessing the yearning for democracy in that country. She moved to Waterloo twenty years ago, after immigrating to Canada when she was 18 years old. A stage performer, Cisterna put on a one-woman show in 1998, titled “My Name Is Isabel.” Ten years ago, she founded Neruda Productions, a not-for-profit organization that supports visual and performance artists.

Liberal-Eric Davis
A lawyer, Mr. Davis is a board director with the United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo and area. Born and raised in the region, he attended K.C.I. and Laurier University before attending law school. A former president of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Grand River Branch), Davis was also an ambassador for Sustainable Waterloo. He cites his priority areas as health, education and the environment.

Independent-Peter Davis
Davis says he hopes to bring new ideas and personal energy to the campaign that will encourage others to become involved and engaged in the community. He opposes the trend towards greater dependence on negative campaigning in Canadian politics. He says running as an independent candidate gives him the opportunity to experiment in positive campaign strategies. Peter has a B.A. Economics from Carleton University, Ottawa; and an M.A. International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. After graduating from the Graduate Institute, he decided to return to his home town of Kitchener-Waterloo to commit himself towards locally generated social change. He is currently volunteering at Supportive Housing of Waterloo, and the Adult Rec Centre, as well as on the City of Waterloo Economic Development Committee. He works part-time as a dishwasher at Ennio’s on King Street.

Green-J.D. McGuire
McGuire moved to Waterloo Region ten years ago to attend Conestoga College, where he studied computer programming. Before landing his current job as an information technology professional, he held a number of jobs, including restaurant manager. McGuire believes the Green party has the best vision for the future of the province.

Freedom Party of Ontario-Melanie Motz
Motz has deep roots in the area. Born and raised in Waterloo, her family has a 150-year history in the region. After graduating from St. David Catholic Secondary School, Motz became involved with the Fair Vote campaign to reform the voting system to promote proportional representation. As a former business manager and worker, she believes that experience will help her to represent constituents at Queen’s Park.

PC-Elizabeth Witmer
Ms. Witmter was first elected to the legislature in 1990, the first female to represent a Waterloo Region riding at Queen’s Park. In her 21 years as an M.P.P., she has served as minister of labour, health, environment and education. Witmer was also deputy premier. She is currently her party’s education and women’s directorate critic.
