There’s 3 more days of bargaining planned for early next week, but if no deal is reached college students may be in for an extended summer vacation.
Ontario’s colleges have offered unionized support staff annual salary increases and no benefit cuts as contract talks tick down towards a possible September strike.
Bargainers for the province’s 24 colleges say their offer would pay union members 1.5 per cent more for the first two years of the proposed contract.
OPSEU, which represents roughly 8,000 support staff, has been seeking a 3% annual wage increase and job protection against the schools’ use of part-time and temporary hires.
Support staff, who fill many non-teaching roles, could strike after the current contract expires August 31st.
