Close the Food Banks

Some community leaders have spoken out that food banks are not working and should be closed.
The main reason is that they can never solve the problem of poverty.
Harry White CEO of Ray of Hope told 570’s Gary Doyle Show that he often feels like they’re putting Band-Aid on the issue, “and the Band-Aid are getting bigger and bigger and more costly. And it’s not just the money, it’s the people that it takes and the people that are willing to invest. White added that he wishes they could do “more positive things for people”.
White said it would be nice if the numbers of those in need were smaller and they could help people in different ways, “you know we’re happy being there doing what we do and feel called to do it, but we certainly want to participate with other community people in trying to find long term solutions”.
White offered some ideas as to what types of things could be done in the community if people could afford their own groceries, “that community energy could be reinvested in a more positive way around youth programs or education…if people could afford their own groceries”, he said.
