RIM to cut some 2,000 jobs

While giving an update on a number of changes in the responsibilities for some of Research in Motion’s senior management, the Waterloo-based BlackBerry manufacturer also announced several thousand job cuts.

The cuts are a part of the company’s “Cost Optimization Program”, and with it RIM has announced that they will reduce their global workforce by “…approximately 2,000 employees…” according to a release.

Once those cuts are made, RIM’s total workforce around the world will be in the neighbourhood of 17,000 people.

Research in Motion employs roughly 9,000 people in Waterloo Region.
