Beating the heat

The dog days of summer are definitely here, and it’s not uncommon to feel a little light headed today.

The Director of Health Protection and Investigation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, Dave Young, says it’s important to react to the changes in weather.

“The best thing people can do to protect themselves is stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before you go outside and if you’re active outside, drink plenty of water during your activities.”

Young also says that it’s important to be aware of your physical condition and if you’re not feeling like your normal self, don’t hesitate and trust your instincts.

“Definitely take a break from what you’re doing, get some fluids in you, get to a cool place as soon as possible, and if you’re not feeling well, seek medical attention.”

Young also recommends to wear loose fitting clothing, a white brim hat and if you need to be out in the sun, wear sunscreen.
