Dry weather to continue

A heat wave sweeping north from the U-S will blanket a large part of Canada from the Prairies to New Brunswick this weekend. And Environment Canada is predicting warmer-than-normal temperatures across the country in August.
University of Waterloo weather station coordinator, Frank Seglenieks says it will probably remain hot and dry for at least a little while and that makes a nice change from the soaking wet spring we had to endure.
July has seen around 2.5mm of rain, which is especially noticeable because we had such a wet spring.
He says this weather is caused by a big high pressure zone above North America, which causes clear skies. That’s combined with warm air from the South, making it hot and dry.
He adds we may see some “pop-up” thunderstorms, which form suddenly, dump a lot of rain, then disappear.
This normally happens so fast, with so much rain, that it doesn’t really get a chance to soak in.
He says a steady rain, coveted by gardeners and farmers, is just not in the forecast right now.
