Cameras are coming

Smile, you’re on camera as you ride the bus…at least you will be.

Regional Council has now okayed the use of video surveillance cameras for over half of the fleet of GRT buses – beginning this fall.

194 buses in all will get the security cameras, but it comes with a price tag of $1.5 million dollars.

Today’s Waterloo Region Record reports 14 Grand River Transit buses already have the equipment mounted, while the others will be equipped this summer.

Activation will start in early fall.

Bus drivers report an average of 12 assaults or threats each year.
