A team from the University of Waterloo is in the running to win the three year long EcoCAR Challenge.
16 teams were challenged to modify a production vehicle to be more fuel efficient and have fewer emissions.
Eric Mallia is part of UW’s team and says they chose to use hydrogen technology. He says, “Arguably, hydrogen fuel cell technology is the most advanced type of technology you can get in a vehicle these days and at Waterloo we really wanted to push our team of engineers to take on the greatest challenge in the competition.”
Mallia says other teams are using technologies like bio-diesel, ethanol or electricity.
The winner will be announced on Thursday. UW has one of just three Canadian teams in the competition.
