Fanelli Triathlon

It’s going to be a long gruelling day for Kitchener Rangers defenceman Ben Fanelli.

He’s competing in his first triathlon of the summer as a way to raise money through his HeadStrong program to support the Brain Injury Association of Canada.

The Triathlon is part of the Subaru Triathlon Series and takes place at the Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Fanelli will be  swimming 750m then jumping on a bike to cycle 30km before ending with a 7.5km run.

Speaking on Talk Local on Rogers TV, Ben says he’s looking forward to the challenge, both physically and mentally, of competing in the event. He says it’s a different experience because he’s relying on only himself and not teammates.

Fanelli hasn’t played for the Rangers since suffering serious head injuries in an October 2009 game against Erie.

He says he’s worked as hard as he can to prepare and is looking forward to crossing the finish line.
