Siskins need financial help

77 Years, The Waterloo Siskins have been a source of pride for the area.

Founded in 1934, the Ontario Hockey Association Junior B club has won 11 Sutherland Cup’s are have been named Team of the Century because of it.

But the franchise is financially strapped.

President of the Siskins and former player Tim Fedy tells 570 News that if things don’t improve, the Siskins might not be able to take the ice.

“We need people to step forward and help us make this team viable for the future and we really need some help.  That’s what I’m hoping will happen over the next few weeks so we can keep this thing going and be the team that we’ve been for many, many years.”

Recently the Siskins lost their board of directors after funding for the not-for-profit bottomed out.

The Siskins need businesses to step forward and sponsor the team, and people to sit on committees and on the board to help run fund raising events.

Fedy says “We need to raise funds like any other not-for-profit organization and expenses are rising and we need to raise the revenues to make sure we can pay for all those expenses to run the team.”

The Siskins have a modest budget and a successful fund raising campaign will lead to an exciting season of hockey.

“We’ve got a lot of good things going for us on the hockey side. We have lots of recruits and we’re looking forward to a good year on the ice assuming we can ice a team and we can raise the necessary funds to make that work.” says Fedy.

Without those funds, the Siskins might not hit the ice.

If you can contribute in any way, please contact Fedy either by phone or email.
