Harper speaks the day after the election

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is dropping his guard for the first time in 37 days, assuring Canadians his government will hold true to the values they hold dear.
Harper lifted the limits he imposed on media questions during the campaign as he spoke earlier this afternoon.
He says he’s humbled by the majority mandate the Conservatives have been given by voters. He adds that he’s disappointed by the result in Quebec, where the party was reduced to a handful of seats in the face an NDP wave.
A smiling, jovial Harper returned to the microphone twice after taking several questions, even admitting to having taken a modest swig of champagne to celebrate Monday’s win.
He also sought to sooth any fear of a looming hard-right agenda, insisting Canada’s commitment to universal, publicly funded health care would not be questioned.
