Kitchener scores four straight in OT win, set to debut retro jersey

The Kitchener Rangers cut it close but were able to overcome a 3-0 Erie lead to record their second win of the season.

Going into Erie hoping to even out the season series after the loss on Friday, Sept. 25, Kitchener would find themselves behind early again.

Mclean Agrette and Michael Dec would score just over two minutes apart, giving the Otters a 2-0 lead with around five minutes left in the first. Kitchener outshot Erie 15-10 in the period but were unable to beat David Egorov.

Five minutes into the second period Paul Schuster found the back of the net, scoring a powerplay goal.

Now down by three, Kitchener would start to find their own momentum. Weston Cameron put the Rangers on the board, scoring off a pass from Tanner Lam.

They would carry that momentum into the third, where they again outshot Erie 15-10 in the period. About 10 minutes in, Avry Antsis cut the deficit to one making it a 3-2 game.

With time running out Lucas Ambrosio had a penalty called on him for closing his hand on the puck, giving Kitchener a two-man advantage for the last two minutes of the game. With the goalie pulled, Weston Cameron tipped in his second goal, tying the game with just 34 seconds left.

Finally, in overtime it didn’t take the Rangers long to close out the game. Tanner Lam was the hero, scoring just under a minute in and ending the game with a 4-3 lead.

Weston Cameron finished the game with two goals, while Tanner Lam recorded a goal and an assist. Michael Dec had a strong performance for the Otters, ending his night with two assists and a goal.

Mason Hriczov recorded a win in his first game of the season, while making 25 saves on 28 shots for Kitchener.
