Lorne Bruce is a 48-year old, married father of two. He says he is passionate about his community, and threw his hat in the ring during last October’s municipal election. Lorne has worked with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, with Kitchener minor hockey, baseball and soccer, as well as with the Filsinger Park West Community Rink and a number of environmental organizations.
He is executive board vice-president of United Food and Commerical Workers Local 1977 and sits on the board of directors of the Waterloo Regional Labour Program and the executive board of the Waterloo Regional Labour Council.
Bruce says one of the biggest issues facing the country is the looming retirement crisis. He said seniors have to continue to work rather than retire, in order to keep their homes, but he says their standards of living are still being reduced. He says young working people are being pounded as plants close down, workers lose their jobs and wages continue to drop, with only part- time and temporary work being available.
Bruce believes health care, social services and the environment are either under attack or are being ignored.
