A new report says Kitchener-Waterloo is one of six Canadian markets that could support an NHL team.
In a report titled “The New Economics of the NHL”, Tony Keller, of the Mowat Centre for Policy Innovation in Toronto says the six markets could support a team based on population and wealth.
He says Kitchener-Waterloo ranks third on the list, behind Toronto and Hamilton.
Keller says if a team were located in Waterloo Region, it would immediately become one of the strongest markets in the league. The report concludes there are millions of hockey fans within an hour’s drive of Waterloo Region who are “nuts about hockey.”
The study also says London, Winnipeg and Vancouver could support a new NHL team.
