A local teen is lucky to be alive after a bizarre vehicle rollover on Bloomingdale Road.
Regional Police Constable Tim Boniface tells 570 News a 19-year old male was driving an SUV eastbound when it left the road for a yet to be determined reason, and rolled over onto its roof in a large area of water — basically melted snow in a farmer’s field.
The water filled the compartment of the vehicle.
570’s Mark Douglas was on the scene…
But Boniface says two passers-by stopped to help, and stood in the muddy water holding the upside-down driver’s head above water until emergency crews arrived.
The Woolwich Fire Department was at the scene in about five to six minutes, police say, and they pulled the driver out through the window.
The driver was rushed to hospital.
Boniface says the two passers-by will be recommended for commendations.
He says if they hadn’t stopped to help, the young man could have drowned.
The 8:40 a.m. rollover today happened just outside the Kitchener city limit.
