Pink Shirt Day

Today, thousands of Canadians will be wearing Pink to raise awareness against bullying. It’s “Pink Shirt Day”.
Four years ago, a grade-9 boy from Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink polo short at his first day of school.
A couple senior students decided to stand up against the bullying and started wearing pink shirts in response.
Alex Vander Vlugt is an 18 year student at Guelph Collegiate High School, he formed an anti bullying group called SPEAK OUT.
He says nowadays bullying has taken on a high-tech form. With bully’s taking to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to do their dirty work.
Vander Vlugt recently won a $5,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project to create a documentary on bullying in Canada. He is currently touring the province, talking to students, teachers, celebrities and industry professionals about the state and impact of bullying.
The film is set to premier in April.
