Blood donors needed

Canadian Blood Services is issuing an appeal for local donors, saying collections were impacted by the winter storm.

Officials at the Bridgeport Road clinic in Waterloo say the storm forced them to close Wednesday morning.

The clinic re-opened in the afternoon, but the snowfall kept many people at home.

Thirty units of blood were collected, while the clinic normally collects 100.

Officials are calling the appeal for donors a proactive measure to replenish their supply.

They say they are not dealing with a shortage.
