Christmas is just around the corner and instead of wading through a sea of people in the stores, a new survey suggests almost half of holiday shoppers in Canada are using the Internet to buy gifts.
The BMO poll conducted by Leger Marketing found that 41 per cent of consumers are doing their shopping online this year and most of them are men.
49 per cent of men polled plan to shop through the net, compared to just one-third of women.
The attraction? The convenience of making a purchase online, according to the experts.
Deputy Chief Economist with BMO Capital Markets, Douglas Porter says retailers here are trying to keep up with the trend by increasingly shadowing U.S. promotional trends.
The survey also found that people most likely to shop online this holiday season are those in the Prairies, followed by British Columbia and Ontario.
