Parts of southwestern Ontario will be getting more snow today and records may fall.
Environment Canada says some areas in London got up to 70 centimetres of snow yesterday and another 20 or 30 are expected by this afternoon.
London’s single day snowfall record was 57 centimetres, which was set on this day in 1977.
Meanwhile, Simcoe County has already declared a snow day for all students while squall warnings continue for Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
It’s actually the second snow day in a row for everyone living in Woodstock and Oxford County and beyond, even the big snow storm isn’t hitting Woodstock and Oxford County.
All schools in Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board are closed again today.
But Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Oxford County have had almost no snow — the 80 cm snowfalls have been hitting areas west of there.
Thames Valley District School Board spokesperson, Kate Young, says, yes this second snow day may frustrate some parents in the Woodstock area, but there too many teachers and staff who have to travel to or from Oxford County and they are closing all schools for safety reasons.
Young says the snow storm is hitting 80 per cent of her school board’s territory.
She thanks all parents for their patience, and hopes Wednesday won’t have to be Snow Day Number 3.
Young says there have been some calls from parents in the snow-free areas who are upset about the closures.
Those closures include all classes, sports activities, and after-hour programs.
