It’s a very busy weekend for old St. Nick as he lands in the area for no less than three Santa Claus parades this weekend.
First up, is the K-W Santa Claus Parade, starting at 10:00am at King and Erb in Waterloo, winding its way along King until it reaches Cedar Street in Kitchener.
Parade chair Vic Bovingdon tells 570 News this year’s edition features 114 entries including 31 floats, 12 bands and dozens of costumed characters.
The parade also allows residents to give back to the community as canned goods will be collected for The Food Bank and there is a toy drive.
As well, children should remember to bring their letters for Santa.
The jolly old elf will then take a break for the afternoon before heading to Cambridge for their Santa Claus Parade – one of the longest in all of Ontario – which begins at 6:00 Saturday night on Hespeler Road at Dunbar.
It runs along Hespeler to Langs Drive.
Parade chair Chris Ziemski tells 570 News it will feature some 70 entries.
They’ll be collecting non perishable food items along the route as well as for the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank.
Then, after spending a good chunk of the day in Waterloo Region, St. Nick makes his way to Guelph on Sunday for their annual parade.
It will feature all the traditional attractions including floats, marching bands, numerous costumed characters, clowns and, of course, Santa.
The event, hosted by the Kinette Club of Guelph, runs from 1:30 until 3:30 Sunday afternoon and there’s a slight change to the route due to construction.
It starts on London Street, running to Woolwich then to Norfolk Street, turning onto Macdonnell and then back onto Woolwich Street where it ends.
