Two Cambridge men are facing charges after poppy boxes were stolen from three stores.
Regional Police say thefts took place from three locations mid-afternoon on Saturday: at businesses on Highland Road West in Kitchener and on Weber Street North in Waterloo.
They say one of the two men, aged 45 and 25, would distract the store clerk while the other stole the poppy box.
Police say two men were arrested yesterday when they allegedly tried to snatch merchandise from a Zehrs.
Police say the two may be connected to other poppy box thefts in the region and would like to hear from anyone who’s been the target of such a theft.
President of Legion Branch 532 in New Hamburg, Robert Anger, tells 570 News his branch had a poppy box stolen last Thursday night or Friday morning from the McDonalds in his town.
He expects the Branch lost about $100, which is terrible he says, adding they only raise about $2,000 each year from the boxes.
Anger says he will be in touch with Regional Police to see if the theft of his poppy box may be related to the two men charged over the weekend.
