A “true soldier”

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – One of Corporal Brian Pinksen’s friends on Facebook says he was an “amazing guy” — another called him a “true soldier.”
Pinksen died yesterday at a hospital in Germany, a week after being wounded by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan.
Military officials say family members were at his bedside.
Pinksen — a reservist with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment — was wounded on a patrol in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar.
Prime Minister Harper offered his condolences to the friends and family of a “brave soldier,” adding Canadians are grateful for his service.
Pinksen is the first Canadian death as part of the mission in Afghanistan since July 20, when Sapper Brian Collier was killed by an IED while on a foot patrol.
There have now been 152 military deaths as part of the mission since 2002.
