TORONTO – Students in Ontario could get a rude awakening when they return to classes in a few weeks.
They will face tougher penalties for not getting their assignments in on time.
New guidelines from the Ontario Ministry of Education will allow teachers to hand out zeros to students who miss deadlines.
That’s a big change in policy for many school boards.
Ken Coran, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, says that doesn’t mean teachers are going to give zeros all the time.
He says it is an attempt to try and improve the students’ behaviour, and work habits.
