Displaced students divided

Students displaced by a fire at St. Michael’s school in Guelph will be sent to two separate schools this fall.
The Wellington Catholic District School Board decided today to send Grades 4 through 8 to St. Ignatius of Loyola and junior kindergarten to Grade 3 students will go to St. Paul.
The board will pay the added cost of bussing the kids to the schools and five portables will be put up at St. Paul to accommodate the students.
Board director Don Drone also says children in some families may end up going to two different schools, which is not ideal, but he says they didn’t really have a choice.
The St. Michael’s students will also return to school four days later than the rest of their peers.
Last week’s fire caused about 2 million dollars in damage.
The blaze was sparked by a small fire in a pot of tar used while construction crews completed roof work on the building.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
Drone says they hope to have the school restored by 2011.
