Stormwater fee approved

Waterloo City Council has approved its stormwater fee which will be phased in starting next year.
It will be fully in place in 2014 and will result in the average homeowner paying a charge of $53 a year to go toward managing rain run-off from properties.
Kitchener approved a stormwater fee last week, but it’s essentially double the figure approved by Waterloo: $126.
The Waterloo plan does include a lower rate for churches and the city is also looking at the possibility of bringing in a credit program for those who effectively manage their rain run-off.
