A trembling mother pleaded with a judge to let her sons go, after she forgave them for trying to kill her in her bathtub.
The two brothers were given absolute discharges Wednesday in Kitchener, Ont., court for attacking their mother in a shocking murder plot hatched by their abusive father.
The boys, now 19 and 16, are already back at home living with their mother, while their now-estranged father is serving a 12-year sentence for orchestrating the scheme.
He was convicted in April of using lies, fake emails and religious intimidation to poison his impressionable children against his wife, who left him after he assaulted her three times.
The boys were 16 and 14 when they tried to drown her at their Kitchener home in 2007, but she struggled and they couldn’t force her down into the bathtub.
The brothers pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, in exchange for a discharge and charges of attempted murder were withdrawn.
