Tri-Pride Festival wraps up

The week long tri-pride festival winds up with an outdoor music festival and barbecue today at Victoria Park in Kitchener it starts at 1 this afternoon and runs till 7 this evening. There are performers and face painting and activities for children.
It started back in 1995 and organizers say its meant to raise visibility and to celebrate and bring the community together about the fact that tri-pride exists.
Deb Gollnick is the the co-chair of the L-G-B-T-Q organization.
LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer and questioning.
She says members of her community experience homophobia every day and adds the region is learning to be more inclusive.
Gollnick says part of their role is to bring people together and become more visible.
Earlier this year tri-pride launched it rainbow sticker campaign called “positive spaces”. It encourages businesses in the region to take active steps to become more welcoming and inclusive.
Among the events earlier this week a photo exhibit and the launch of proud magazine, the region’s new lgbtq and lifestyle diversity magazine.
