Over 1,000 motorcyclists hit the roads of Waterloo Region today for the Seventh Annual Motorcycle Ride for Dad.
It’s a fundraiser and public awareness event in the fight against prostate cancer.
Locally, the ride has raised over $492,000 since 2004 and nationally it’s brought in $5,000,000 since it first started ten years ago.
Kit Wilton, Co-Chair for the Grand River Motorcycle Ride for Dad tells 570 News the key is for men to get screened for the disease because it is treatable if caught early enough.
She says it’s the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst men and the second most common cause of death.
Motorcyclists will depart from the Activa Sportsplex on Lennox Lewis Way in Kitchener at 9 this morning and then will travel roughly 200 kilometers through not only Waterloo region, but also Guelph, Elora, Brantford and points in between.
It wraps up at the Waterloo Regional Police Association Centre on Rife Road in Cambridge early afternoon.
