A regional committee has passed a 51 million dollar plan to build 11 roundabouts on Franklin Boulevard in Cambridge.
The roundabouts will be installed between Myers Road and Pinebush over a period of three years.
The construction will require one business to be removed.
But, Planning and Works Chair Jim Wideman says the region might be able to pay for the owner to rebuild on the site.
The changes to Franklin are aimed at alleviating congestion on the busy road.
Studies cited by the region found roundabouts are safer than other types of intersections and they reduce collision rates involving injury by 80 per cent.
The project still requires final approval from council.
