OPP officer dies following shooting

OPP Constable Vu Pham has died following a morning shooting near the town of Winthrop, about an hour north of London.
The 37-year-old was shot while pulling over an armed suspect.
In a statement, OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino stated “I am deeply saddened by the loss of this young brave officer who was committed to protecting the citizens of Ontario.”
Constable Pham was shot just before 10:30 on Monday morning.
Pham was a 15 year member of the force, who also served in the Cochrane and West Perry Sound detachments of the OPP.
He was a married father of three sons.
Other officers in close proximity of the scene located and confronted the suspect who was shot during the incident.
Eyewitnesses say 15 to 20 shots were exchanged between an officer and the suspect from across a two-lane rural road.
The OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch and the Province’s Special Investigation Unit are at the scene of the shooting.
