A Waterloo-based tech company is leading the way when it comes to high resolution aerial photogrammetry.
Neil Humphrey, the manager of corporate publications for DALSA tells 570 News they’ve developed high resolution image sensors.
The image sensors are about the size of a CD case and are in cameras about the size of a dishwasher. The cameras are hooked up to planes in order to get those high-resolution pictures you see on Google Earth and Bing Maps.
To be able to deliver quality, Humphrey says the image sensor and cameras are scaled way up, and contain resolutions up to 200 mega pixels.
The high resolution of the new technology allows users to produce high-quality urban maps, large-scale ortho photos and stereo imagery with fewer flight lines, saving time and lowering cost. Increased onboard storage allows for longer flights to take advantage of good flying conditions, and the high throughput and superior dynamic range of the DALSA sensors enable the system to capture more data with higher image quality in less time.
