Waterloo city council revisits topic of amalgamation

Amalgamation was once again on the agenda at Waterloo City Council Monday night.

Councillor Jan D’ailly’s motion to form a committee between Kitchener and Waterloo after the October municipal election was defeated, almost unanimously.

But just when the issue looked to be at an end, Mayor Brenda Halloran gave notice that she will bring forward a motion on the issue that contains a the question:

“Do you support the members of Kitchener and Waterloo councils engaging in discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of merging the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo? Yes or No?”

The motion will be voted on by councillors at their February 22nd meeting.

It wasn’t voted on last night because council wanted to give the public adequate time to respond to the Mayor’s new motion.
