It turns out that merger talks may not be dead at Waterloo Council after all, as Councillor Jan D’Ailly gave notice at council last night that he’s going to bring forward a motion to open a community dialogue.
The motion says in part that “Council supports the notion that any short comings, problems or issues stemming from the current governance structure need to be identified and well understood.”
D’ailly says his motion will ask this Council to recommend to the next Council, to be elected in October’s municipal election, to start a community dialogue to answer amalgamation questions and issues and ensure that a decision making process is in place to resolve the issues.
Councillor Ian McLean objected to the notice, saying the motion is a political ploy and that merging with Kitchener is now a non-issue because Council dealt with the issue at its January 25th meting.
