Carbon monoxide scare forces evacuation of autism centre

A carbon monoxide scare forced the evacuation of a residence for autism treatment in Centre Wellington and sent close to a dozen people to hospital as a precaution.
Authorities were first called out to Kerry’s Place Autism Services near Fergus around three yesterday afternoon after the carbon monoxide alarms sounded.
The building was evacuated and testing done by Centre Wellington Fire Fighters turned up acceptable levels.
However, around six last evening, an ambulance was sent to the centre after a resident complained of flu-like symptoms.
Once again, all 10 staff and residents were told to leave the building and this time testing turned up carbon monoxide levels in the higher range.
The Ministry of Labour has been called in.
OPP say the home is currently under construction.
