Some local businesses bring back the idea of amalgamation

The latest round of local amalgamation talks was not spearheaded by politicians, but local businesses.

David Marskell is part of a group of businesses that want a question put on the ballot in the fall election. It would ask voters if they are willing to have a discussion on the idea of amalgamating Kitchener and Waterloo.

Marskell, the Executive Director of the Waterloo Regional Children’s Museum tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show, he’s ready for the hailstorm.

The last group to push for a merger was the citizens for better government in 2006. Their effort to amalgamate the three cities and townships in Waterloo Region was unsuccessful.

Kitchener and Waterloo city councils will vote on the referendum question tomorrow night.
