University students compete in battle for cash

Students from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier will be among thirty six teams hoping to win money and bragging rights in the Battle for CA$H.
The event happens Saturday at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in Toronto. Director of Career Information, Mona Ghiami, tells 570 news, teams of three undergraduate business students will compete on the skills of the CA profession. She says the competition focuses on soft skills such as teamwork, time management, leadership, and communication.
Ghiami says there are big incentives for teams to do well. Not only are there cash prizes up to $3,000, but students also get a chance to network with top employers. She says it’s up to the individual schools to choose their team members and typically UW and WLU rank near the top in the competition.
The Battle for CA$H began six years ago and Ghiami says it’s evolved into showcasing the soft skills of the profession, as opposed to the technical skills. She adds that many students don’t realize how important those skills are to the CA profession.

The University of Waterloo will be represented by three teams:

Vithushan Jeyakumaran, Talha Omer and Joanne Toporowski

Michelle Lau, Andrew Leung and Jennifer Liu

Michael Krzywicki, Jonathan Chan and Nasheen Kalkat

Wilfrid Laurier University will be represented by three teams:

Sahil Sharma, Ziyad Syed and Sally Regenstreif

Jason Ramdan, Allan Christie and Jordine Meyer

Ryan Lessard, Cory Shen and Mateen Latif
