Group fights for Victoria Park clean up

A group fighting for the clean up of Victoria Park Lake is staging a public meeting tonight.
The goal is two fold: to try and convince Kitchener City Council there is ample support for the project and not just in Kitchener, and to galvanize community support for the initiative.
They want the lake dredged to remove the build up of sediment.
Sue Coulter of the Victoria Park Working Group tells today’s Record they’ve received emails of support from across the region with the message being clear: the health of the lake is an important issue for many living even several miles from it.
The city’s 10-year capital budget, which runs until 2019, does not include the estimated 16-million-dollar clean up.
However, council has directed staff to look at options that could see the project moved up.
That report may be complete today.
Meantime, tonight’s public meeting is being staged in the Victoria Park pavilion starting at 6:00 p.m.
