Ski season kicks off

The 75th season of skiing at Chicopee officially begins today. Thanks to our recent cold snap, the club has been able to add a man-made base to our natural snow and will have at least four runs and two lifts open today.

Marketing and Business Development Manager Dwayne Orth tells 570 News the opening is about a week later than last year but adds that’s the life of a ski club in southern Ontario. Still, he’s pleased that this year’s opening coincides with the start of Christmas break so families will have the chance to enjoy some time together on the slopes over the next couple of weeks.

Orth says December 29, 1934 was the official day of Chicopee’s incorporation as a not-for-profit company so a number of activities are planned for the 29th this year. Among them, a world record slalom attempt, a series of commemorative videos and a 75th birthday cake. And after 5 PM on the 29th, Orth says lift tickets will be sold for $19.34 in honour of the anniversary.
