Kitchener Public Library looks to cut costs ahead of 2010

KITCHENER – The Kitchener Public Library is feeling the pinch, as it follows the city’s lead in cutting costs heading into 2010.
It’s considering reducing staff and its collection budget.
Today’s Record reports, KPL may not fill the equivalent of three full-time staff positions.
As well, it may purchase 11% fewer books and other resources in an effort to reduce its collection budget by $136,000.
The city wants the overall tax bite not to exceed 3% and has asked several groups to reduce their budget requests.
In the case of the library, it wants it to slash close to $240,000.
