Police lay 122 charges in commercial motor vehicle blitz

Regional police laid 122 charges in a commercial vehicle blitz conducted in Kitchener on June 22 and 23. 

The blitz was conducted in partnership with Guelph, Halton and York Police Services, as well as OPP, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Transportation. 

Stationed at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on East Avenue, police inspected 177 motor vehicles, 73 of which were taken out of service. Ten plates were seized, and 122 charges were laid, including the following: 

  • Insecure loads
  • Failing to maintain daily service logs
  • Improper class of licence
  • Defective and broken equipment including brakes and suspensions
  • Expired and improper registration

Two drivers also tested positive for driving while using cannabis, and both were issued approved Drug Screening Equipment Suspensions.

Police did note that all 177 drivers were provided with a mandatory alcohol screen test, with no infractions. 

The Ministry of Finance conducted 113 inspections, and laid one charge for operating with coloured fuel.
