Bowmanville man charged after fraud of Kitchener business

By Luke Schulz

A 31-year-old man from Bowmanville is facing both fraud and theft-related charges following the completion of two search warrants at separate locations in Toronto.

According to regional police, those warrants stemmed from a January 2021 report of fraud affecting a business in the Kitchener area. That business is said to have lost over $70,000 to fake electronic fund transfers.

Through their investigation, police identified their suspect and completed those two search warrants, locating the man at a residence and arresting him.

Officers also seized roughly $50,000 in cash, a currency counter, unspecified drugs, credit and debit cards, a safe, cellphones and jewellery.

That 31-year-old man has been charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. They've been held in police custody for a bail hearing.
