UW launches Canada’s first research institute for sustainable aeronautics

The University of Waterloo has launched Canada's first institute for sustainable aeronautics, with the hope of making air transport more sustainable.

The Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA) will combine the work of 50 researchers throughout the university, and will be guided by an advisory committee that includes astronaut Chris Hadfield. 

According to WISA director Suzanne Kearns, their research will largely be focused on reducing the carbon emissions that aircraft produce.
